Chelseawill face or Barcelona won'tWomen's Champions LeagueSemi-finals after a dramatic penalty shootout winLyon.
When Sara Dabritz doubled the guests' lead in extra time after Vanessa Gilles' 76IsGoal in the minute, it looked like Emma Hayes' team was about to collapse.
Aside from a glorious chance for Sam Kerr in the first 45 minutes, they struggled until a frantic finish in extra time to really disrupt the Lyon goal.
The superb Lauren James won a late penalty and finally brought some change to the Lyon defense that had been holding the hosts back.
Then Maren Mjelde stepped forward and scored from the penalty spot, sending the game into a penalty shootout lottery. The only downside from Chelsea's perspective was that James' efforts faltered as all four team-mates scored and goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger made two saves to send the Blues off.

Hayes is enjoying a 'fantastic' WSL title shot despite the crucial loss to Chelsea
18:37,jonathan roth
Chelsea boss Emma Hayes said it was "fantastic" for the women's Super League title race to come to an end.
The WSL top four are separated by three points after Manchester City's 2-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday.
City now share the lead with Manchester United while Chelsea are a point behind despite having a game to play. Arsenal are two points behind Chelsea after beating Tottenham 5-1 on Saturday.
The Gunners have one game left and will face the three teams above them in their last seven games.
"We have a game ahead of us and we need to maximize it," Hayes said. “It's fantastic for the league that it's like this.
Interview with Sam Kerr: I had to join Chelsea to become what I wanted
18:01,jonathan roth
Sam Kerr has won every domestic trophy since joining Chelsea and is now determined to win the Champions League.
Chelsea came close in Kerr's first full season in 2021 but Barcelona beat them 4-0 in the final.
Although it was a "painful" defeat, Kerr says last season's group stage defeat is the real driving force for Chelsea ahead of tonight's quarter-final first leg against champions Lyon. The Blues suffered a 4-0 loss to Wolfsburg in their last group game as a Covid outbreak wreaked havoc within the team.
"I think what's on our minds right now is the loss to Wolfsburg and being eliminated from the group stage," says Kerr.Standardsport. "It really, really hurt. I think we will take that more than the Champions League final this year.
